Why do we need Fire Safety Training?

The Fire Brigade attended 173,872 fires in Britain in 2022/2023, which was an increase of 12% on the previous year.  Sadly, fatalities were also on the increase, with 284 people losing their life in a fire.

Fire in the workplace has the potential to devastate a business, disrupting operations, damaging property, people and the environment, and most importantly, the huge risk to life.  Sadly, 25% of businesses never re-open after a serious fire and 80% of companies who don’t recover in a month are likely to go out of business.

Fortunately though, it is believed that most fires are preventable and therefore the importance of fire safety in the workplace is underpinned by health and safety legislation that places a duty on employers to establish policies and procedures and ensure their employees receive appropriate training.

So not only does it make good business sense to have the right training in place, it’s also your legal obligation as an employer.
