Course Introduction

Who should attend?

 

  • A basic knowledge of First Aid will not enable you to deal effectively with a traumatic, catastrophic bleed.
  • Catastrophic bleeding is life-threatening and can kill in minutes, so having a fast and effective method of stopping bleeding is a must have skill.
  • Our one-day CPD Accredited Catastrophic Bleed’s course will equip the user with the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise on how to apply a Tourniquet (CAT, MAT, and SOFT T) and Haemostatic dressings (Celox/Quick Clot) in the event of an emergency.
  • This course is accredited by the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) accreditation group

    • The Catastrophic Bleeds course is targeted at First Aiders in all outdoor and remote activities
    • It is also suitable for those who work in high-risk environments, such as Construction, Equestrian, Agricultural, Saw Mills, Forestry, Tree Surgery, Farming, Game Shooting, Gun Clubs, Security etc

Course Overview

  • Every second matters and this CPD Award in Catastrophic Bleeds qualification will give you the confidence to act quickly and effectively in the event of an emergency.
  • The syllabus for this course meets the HSE and Resuscitation Council (UK) training recommendations the treatment of Traumatic Injuries.

  • This includes Control of bleeding, Haemostatic dressings and Use of a tourniquet.

  • This course will take at least 6 hours to complete.  These hours will be delivered in 1 day.

 

The role of the First Aider

Recognising a catastrophic external bleed

Health and safety (First Aid) regulations

Controlling a catastrophic external bleed

Managing an emergency

Catastrophic external bleed control measures

Communication and casualty care

Casualty aftercare

Accident recording and reporting

Use of tourniquets (CAT/MAT/SOFT T)

Changes to the guidelines

Use of haemostatic products (Celox/Quick Clot)

 

 

  • The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail based on practical and oral assessment throughout the course, i.e. by observation and oral questioning, as well as the completion of a multiple-choice question paper at the end of the course.
  • The instructor will only award a pass if they believe that delegates have displayed the requisite understanding and competencies at the end of each session throughout the course and successfully completed the question paper.
  • On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Catastrophic Bleeds CDP Certificate, which is valid for one year.
  • This course is Regulated by Ofqual under their Regulated Quality Framework (RQF) and accredited by the FAA.
