Course Introduction
Who should attend?
- The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid qualification is accredited and regulated and provides first aid training specifically for those delegates who would need to be able to administer First Aid to infants under the age of 1 and children from the age of 1 up to the onset of puberty.
- Our two-day course focuses on emergency scenarios that face those looking after young children and infants, including day nurseries, private nursery schools, pre-schools, before and after school clubs for children in the early years age group, childminders and carers of children at home.
- It covers everything you need to know on helping a sick, injured or ill child, prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
- This Paediatric First Aid qualification fulfils the requirements of the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as issued by the department for Education and Skills Foundation stage relating to Early Years childcare.
- This course is for Childminders, Nannies & Au Pairs, Teachers, Nursery staff, Playgroup leaders, Parents & Grandparents;
- Anyone looking to be Ofsted Registered or working towards the NVQ in Childcare and Education;
- Anyone working with or looking after children of any age.

Course Overview
- This course will teach you a variety of fundamental first aid topics, including the law surrounding first aid, how to carry out primary and secondary surveys, how to put children and infants into the recovery position, how to administer life-saving CPR, how to use defibrillators, and how to provide assistance for a variety of injuries and illnesses.
- This course will take at least 12 hours to complete. These hours are delivered over 2 days.
- The syllabus for this Paediatric First Aid course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted, as well as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and it is fully compliant with The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

- The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail based on practical and oral assessment throughout the course, i.e. by observation and oral questioning, as well as the completion of a multiple-choice question paper at the end of the course.
- The instructor will only award a pass if they believe that delegates have displayed the requisite understanding and competencies at the end of each session throughout the course and successfully completed the question paper.
- On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 3 (RQF) Paediatric First Aid Certificate, which is valid for three years.
- This course is Regulated by Ofqual under their Regulated Quality Framework (RQF) and accredited by the FAA.
- The requirement of the Health and Safety Executive is that this certificate is renewed before the certificate expiry date to remain a qualified first-aider.
- Annual refresher training is also recommended by the HSE, as this provides First Aiders with an opportunity to practise and update their skills as a qualified First Aider, at any time while their First Aid certificate is valid.
