National Forklift Safety Day

Tuesday 13th June is National Forklift Safety Day, and this year’s theme is “Safe Sites Save Lives’.

According to the HSE’s Workplace Fatal Injuries in Great Britain report, published in July 2022, 123 workers were killed in work-related accidents in 2021/22, with around a quarter of these (30) consigned to the Construction sector. The Transportation & Storage sector, which includes Warehousing & Logistics, shows 16 deaths.

The most common fatal industrial accident constitutes falls from height, accounting for 29 of the total number of deaths in the period. The second most common fatal industrial accident involved people being struck by a moving vehicle, followed by people being struck by a flying/falling object, contact with machinery and then trapped by something collapsing or overturning.

The risks associated with such incidents could be reduced if correct risk assessments are carried out, along with improved operator training and supervision, increased use of safety infrastructure and automation.

“Anyone with a stake in this important industry will recognise the importance of keeping workers safe and we hope National Forklift Safety Day will encourage more organisations to audit their safety protocols to ensure they remain compliant at all times” said David Goss, Technical Director of UKMHA (UK Material Handling Association).

Have you or your drivers had adequate forklift training?  Do you have records to show what training they have had and that it’s in date? Would you be confident that in the event of an incident, you could provide evidence of that training and that it was sufficient and compliant?  Have you had some near misses involving operators driving poorly?

There are lots of training companies and trainers out there offering courses, but the quality of that training can vary greatly. To ensure that any training you invest in is of a high standard and is HSE compliant, then you should use an accredited training company.  Our RTITB accreditation ensures that our training is legally compliant, of a high standard and operators only pass our courses if they are competent to do operate.

We offer a huge range of forklift training courses in our centre, or we can come to you to deliver training at your site.  Please see our forklift training webpage – https://keyperformancetraining.co.uk/flt-courses-rtitb-forklift-training-swindon-and-nationwide-counterbalance-reach-bendi-telescopic/#

If you want to ensure that you or your organisation are compliant and if you take the safety of those who operate on and around forklift trucks seriously, then contact to us about how our accredited training can help you.

Saturday training now available

We’re delighted to be able to announce that due to popular demand, we’re opening the training centre on Saturdays for forklift refresher courses.

First Aid Icon

We’ve been repeatedly asked if we can offer Saturday training, because people struggle to get the time off work in the week, so we’ve listened and are now able to offer refresher courses on Saturdays.  We can even train you on two trucks in a single day on a Saturday!

There is such high demand in the South West for experienced operators, so there are some great opportunities out there now for highly paid jobs with sociable hours.  We have links with the local job agencies and can put you in touch with the best people to help you find that next step in your career.

Perhaps you allowed your certificate to lapse because you found other work. Perhaps you just fancy a change in career.  Whatever your reasons, an up-to-date RTITB certificate can open doors for you.

And because we know times are difficult right now, we’ve decided not to charge a weekend rate for this, so our normal prices are being held – £155 plus VAT per certificate.  We hope this helps everyone a little in these tough times.

It’s our fifth anniversary this week!

It’s our fifth anniversary this week!

Five years ago, on 12th March 2018, we proudly completed our very first training courses, a Counterbalance and Reach truck refresher for one person.  Since then, we’ve gone on to help a further 504 people achieve another 709 certificates in a huge variety of courses, across the regulated training spectrum!

We’ve helped 67 businesses and charities ensure they are meeting their legal obligations and we’ve helped 171 private individuals gain new certificates and keep their own certification and qualifications up to date.

But more than that, we hope we’ve made a real difference along the way.  By working closely with some charities and agencies, we’ve been able to help people who have found themselves in a tough spot and just need a little help to lift them back up.

It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege working alongside the people we’ve worked with over the last five years, and we hope that if you’ve attended a course with us, we’ve been able to make your working life just that little bit more enjoyable, or we’ve played our part in giving you a helping hand just when you needed it.

Why chose RTITB accredited training?

Why chose RTITB accredited training?

Key Performance Training is proud to be an RTITB accredited lift truck training company, but what does this mean for you when choosing which company to train with?

The RTITB is the gold standard of training in our industry, and we only use RTITB accredited instructors and examiners for all our lift truck courses

We know that the best lift truck instructors want to deliver high standards of training. They want to ensure their training candidates are engaged with their courses, and to make sure that the lift truck operators they train can ultimately work safely and efficiently.  By using only RTITB accredited trainers, we can guarantee that all our courses meet these high standards.

We have access to their range of high-quality materials.  We avoid ‘death by PowerPoint’, as no one enjoys long slide presentations, and instead use expertly designed course materials which are engaging for learners.  We include different training delivery methods, such as group contributions, group participation and demonstrations, which help make the training more interactive.

We also have high quality question papers and mock theory papers, which enable good preparation and revision for our delegates, and all our materials are regularly updated, to ensure legal compliance.

The result is better engagement, leading to more knowledgeable forklift operators.

When instructors are trained and examined to the RTITB standard, you can be confident that they will deliver training to a high standard because they hold a sought-after, professional qualification.

For businesses, using RTITB instructors helps ensure the highest training and safety standards are upheld, and ensures that their training complies with guidance by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

We believe in offering high quality, engaging training and that’s why the RTITB standard is so important to us.  We are audited on an annual basis as well, so you can be confident that these high standards are constantly being met and maintained.
