We’re proud to be supporting National Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs from 15th May – 21st May 2023. This annual event organised by the Mental Health Foundation (the UK’s leading charity on mental health), aims to raise awareness and encourage us all to talk about our mental health.
Our mental health impacts every part of our lives, and therefore naturally impacts us both at home and at work. Did you know:
25% of people have left their job due to Mental Health issues
68% of people feel that their employer should be doing more to address Mental Health issues at work
40% of people have taken a day or longer off work due to Mental Health issues
20% of people say that their company has a Mental Health wellbeing policy that they know about
25% of people feel their workplace is contributing negatively to their mental wellbeing
One in four of us will experience a mental illness in their lifetime, so this is happening all around us. Would you be able to spot the signs of someone close to you if they were struggling? Would you know what to do to support them?
We’re running a one-day Mental Health First Aid course on Wednesday 24th May which will teach you just that. It is designed to help employers provide a positive culture within the workplace and to provide learners with the knowledge to both identify and act on mental health conditions, should they be suspected.
On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 2 (RQF) First Aid for Mental Health at Work Certificate, which is valid for three years. This course is Regulated by Ofqual under their Regulated Quality Framework (RQF) and accredited by the FAA.
For every booking on the course, we’ll donate 10% of the booking value to the Mental Health Foundation, and each successful learner will also get a Mental Health Foundation green ribbon pin badge.

Did you know it’s Mental Health Awareness week next month?
Running from 15th – 21st May 2023, the week is an annual event, organised by the Mental Health Foundation (the UK’s leading charity on mental health) and the theme for this year is anxiety.
It is designed to encourage us all to think about mental health, tackle stigma, and find out how to create a society that protects our mental wellbeing.
This year, Mental Health Awareness Week coincides with Learning at Work Week 2023, so there is no better time to ensure that you and your business know what to do when someone you know or work with needs your help.
We’re running a Mental Health First Aid course on Wednesday 24th May, which is designed to help employers to provide a positive Mental Health culture within the workplace and to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge on a range of the most common Mental Health conditions and the skills to be able to act should a condition be suspected.
We’re proud to support this cause, because if you’ve ever suffered with your mental health, then you know how important good support is, and good support starts with good training.
Did you know that there are different types of fire extinguishers, and each type is designed to extinguish specific classes of fires? They can be confusing, so we’ve put together a handy guide to the main five types of fire extinguishers here in the UK and the types of fires they are designed to extinguish.
Water fire extinguishers: Safe to use on ordinary combustible fires (such as wood, paper, textiles etc).
Powder fire extinguishers: Safe to use on ordinary combustible fires, plus flammable liquid fires (such as gasoline, oil, or grease), gaseous fires and electrical fires (such as motors, appliances, or tools).
CO2 fire extinguishers: Safe to use on flammable liquid fires and electrical fires.
Foam fire extinguishers: Safe to use on ordinary combustibles fires and flammable liquid fires.
Fire Blanket: Used to smother files, these are safe to use for chip pan, fryer and waste bin fires. They are also designed to wrap around someone whose clothes are burning.
Wet Chemical fire extinguishers: Safe to use on ordinary combustibles fires, plus extinguishing fires involving cooking oils and fats, such as those in commercial kitchens.
It is important to use the right type of fire extinguisher for the type of fire you are dealing with, as using the wrong type can be ineffective or even dangerous. If you are unsure about what type of fire extinguisher to use, it is best to evacuate the area and call the fire department for assistance.
If you’d like to understand what to do in a fire, or if you have specific fire wardens / marshal obligations, our QA Level 2 Award in Fire Safety (RFQ) could be the course you need. We teach you an understanding of fire safety management at work and the specific roles and responsibilities related to fire safety in the workplace.

It’s always great to learn new skills, and learning First Aid is particularly rewarding, especially if you go onto use those skills in a real-life emergency. But it’s also an impressive skill for you personally and can really benefit your career. An Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course can be beneficial in several ways:
Enhanced skills: With an EFAW course, you’ll learn valuable skills that can be applied in emergency situations. This can make you a valuable asset to your employer, especially if you work in an industry where accidents or injuries are common
Professional development: Many employers look favorably upon employees who take the initiative to improve their skills and knowledge. Completing an EFAW course demonstrates your commitment to professional development and may enhance your career prospects
Compliance: Some jobs, especially those in high-risk industries such as construction or manufacturing, require employees to have a certain level of first aid training. By completing an EFAW course, you may be meeting this requirement and making yourself a more attractive candidate for employment
Personal development: Learning how to provide first aid can also be personally fulfilling. It can give you a sense of confidence and accomplishment and may even inspire you to pursue further training or volunteer work in this area
Overall, an EFAW course can help you develop valuable skills, demonstrate your commitment to professional development, and make you a more attractive candidate for certain jobs.
